Kuttawa Cannonball Run At 95 Boats And Counting

Set for June 4-6, the fifth annual Kuttawa Cannonball Run currently has 95 boats registered. If sign-ups continue at their current pace, the event on Barkley Lake and Lake Kentucky will eclipse last year’s 140-boat record.

“The weekend before the run last year we only had 65 boats pre-registered,” said Stephen Miles, a member of the 100-plus-mile run’s organizing trio that includes Jeff Hoefling and Terry Martin. “A lot of people registered on the day-of last year so we’re expecting that to happen again.”

If the run does set a participation record this year, that record could stand forever. The organizers are considering a future cap in the 115- to 120-boat range, as well as a modest entry-fee price hike, after this year.

“We’re not sure of the exact number just yet,” said Miles. “We haven’t voted on it. We’re still working on this year’s run.”

Sponsors for this year’s event include Stephen Miles Design, Lively Machine Company, Mercury Racing and WIA Marine Insurance. Sponsorships at various levels are still available.
