MTI Owners Gather For Impromptu Fun Run In Miami

Just a couple of days after running Mercury Racing’s MTI 340X test platform for its new V-8 300R engines on Missouri’s Lake of the Ozarks in near freezing conditions, MTI owner Randy Scism was basking in the sunshine near Stiltsville—the intriguing assortment of historic hand-built wood stilt houses on Biscayne Bay en route to the Atlantic Ocean—in a larger MTI catamaran and surrounded by a dozen MTI customers and their 34- to 52-foot catamarans.

MTI owner Randy Scism shared this panoramic image from Saturday’s fun run in Miami (click to enlarge).

“We’re just out here goofing off today,” Scism said on Saturday afternoon. “A bunch of customers wanted a break from the winter weather so they came to South Florida and we put together an impromptu fun run for today and tomorrow. We had 12 boats with us today and I think there will be 15 on Sunday, including some center consoles. All of these guys have their boats stored in our location at Haulover Marine Center so it’s pretty easy now to put something like this together.”

Following a trip to Sundowners in Key Largo for lunch on Saturday, Scism said it’s particularly nice for customers from the Midwest and the Northeast to be able to get out of the cold weather, head to the Sunshine State and get to use their boats with the assistance of MTI’s “white-glove” service approach.

“Thanks to the MTI sales and service center at Haulover, we’ll probably be doing more runs like this with our customers,” Scism said. “It’s just too convenient not to.”

Along with Scism, who was joined by his wife, Cherell, and daughter, Taylor, in Bob Bull’s recently converted 52-foot former raceboat, other notable MTI owners who participated in the fun run this weekend included Don Verkuylen in his Super Veloce G7 52-foot cat, Ron Schwartz in his striking new 340X, Mark and Jennifer Schouten in their 43-footer, El Gato Patrón, and Fred Reavis in his 48-foot cat.

Scism said Sunday’s activities included a stop at a sandbar followed by lunch at Postcard Inn in Islamorada, and that on Monday—New Year’s Eve day—the group was headed to lunch in Fort Lauderdale.
