Mystic Powerboats Sea Trials New M4200 With Help From FaceTime

With client representative Shane Sherman on hand late last week for the initial sea trial of the latest Mystic Powerboats M4200 to come out of the DeLand, Fla., facility, Mystic general manager Ryan Zivitski put the 42-foot luxury performance center console powered by quad Mercury Marine 300 engines through the paces before buttoning it up this week for delivery to its owner on Missouri’s Lake of the Ozarks.

Sherman, who had been quarantining at a friend’s home near Atlanta for the past two months because of the COVID-19 pandemic, agreed to make the trip south for the boat’s final quality control inspection and sea trial since its owner was unsure if he could make it as the pandemic put a kink in his travel arrangements.

Little did Sherman know when he committed to being there that the conditions that day would whip up 5- to 6-foot seas outside of Florida’s Ponce Inlet with a tropical depression looming. Needless to say, the well-known boat captain and performance boat enthusiast enjoyed the test session with Zivitski and said the boat handled the rough water extremely well. During the process, Sherman even reached out via FaceTime so the owner and his family could go for a “virtual ride” on the understated, yet classy M4200.

“That was definitely a first for me—doing a virtual delivery like that,” Sherman said. “I worked with my client, who was referred to me by another customer who bought a Mystic through me, for about a year comparing different boats and we finally landed on the M4200. I have a great relationship with John Cosker (Mystic’s owner and founder) and working with Zivitski and Greg Weber (Mystic’s dealer rep) is always a pleasure.

“The COVID-19 pandemic threw a few obstacles in our path as the build was nearing completion, but through technology and ingenuity we were able to get it accomplished,” he continued. “Ryan and I headed out in the boat, went over all of the systems to make sure everything was working as expected and proceeded to complete a shakedown run. The boat handled incredibly well and the torque of the quad V-8 Mercury engines was exceptional. We stayed completely dry despite Mother Nature throwing less than favorable conditions at us.”

Afterward Sherman said the 42-footer was detailed and prepped for shipping to Lake of the Ozarks, where he will be giving the owner the keys and an orientation later this week so the owner, who is moving out of a Formula Boats 400 SS, and his family can go enjoy the holiday weekend.

The owner was grateful Sherman was present for the initial sea trial, especially because Mystic’s preferred delivery method is done at the factory and then the boat is shipped to its permanent home, giving the company the time and resources it needs to make any last-minute changes or address any concerns the customer may have before turning it over the owner.
