Shootout Update: Tomlinson Done For The Weekend With 197-MPH Runs

After running Jon Roth’s Skater 388 catamaran with twin 1,700-plus-hp supercharged Carson Brummett engines today and yesterday to 197 mph during the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout in Missouri, John Tomlinson is on the way to St. Louis to catch his flight back to Florida. TNT Custom Marine, the business he co-owns with his business partner Mike Thomas, is located in North Miami.

Tomlinson drove and throttled the 38-footer in all three runs (his slowest pass was 194) this weekend. He had hoped to coax the cat past the 200-mph today, but conditions didn’t allow it.

“In the run this morning, I caught some wind and backed off and coasted through at 197 mph,” said Tomlinson. “If I didn’t have to lift the run would been easily over 200 mph, but the wind off the bluff just picked me up.

“Yesterday’s 197-mph run was ‘on autopilot,’ but we didn’t have as much power as we have today,” he continued. “They stepped it up a bit this morning, but after the run we thought it was best to park it.”
