Catching Up With Devin Wozencraft—Road Warrior On Break

With the exception of maybe the Rolling Stones, no one tours harder than Devin Wozencraft. Like Mick and the lads—yes, I’m taking liberties—the Southern California-based high-performance insurance man realized long ago that his act is best-enjoyed by a live audience. So he bought a 30-foot Skater Powerboats catamaran and started a road show of his own, lightheartedly dubbed as the Wozencraft World Tour on this website, five years ago.

With his first gigs of this year—the Joey Gratton Memorial New Year’s Day Fun Run followed by the Fort Myers Offshore Holiday Fun Run in Southwest Florida—already behind him, Wozencraft currently is enjoying a little downtime with his family back in California. Next month, he’ll head to the Miami International Boat Show and the Florida Powerboat Club Miami Boat Show Poker Run. His catamaran is already in the Sunshine State—he left it at Statement Marine in Clearwater, Fla., where the 30-footer is being updated with new flooring, before coming home.

“Right now, I’m just laying low until I go back to Florida for the Miami show,” he said.

Wozencraft’s ride was the first catamaran to be upgraded with Mercury Racing’s latest hybrid product, meaning 300R outboard engines with Advance Mid-Sections. That, too, was a byproduct of his annual road show, as the Fond du Lac, Wis., company tasked Wozencraft to give demo rides in the repowered 30-footer during the product’s media unveiling last March. It was one of a dozen events he tackled in 2021.

Wozencraft’s life on the road, at least as it applies to Florida, is about to get a whole lot easier. In August 2021, he purchased a home in Cape Coral. For now at least, he’s calling it “the Florida office.”

“It’s 75 percent furnished,” he said. “I’m thrilled to have a second home there. After Miami, I’m going to hit the trail again starting with more events in Southwest Florida before I head to Louisiana for the Tickfaw 200 Poker Run.”

An unmatched grassroots marketer in the go-fast boating world, Wozencraft looks for new events to attend each year. He also has bunch of classics such as the Boyne Thunder Poker Run in Michigan and the LEOPA Thunderfest Poker Run in Ohio that he won’t miss. But he won’t admit to having a favorite.

“How could I do that and alienate the other event organizers?” he said, then laughed. “I do love the LEOPA Thunderfest at Put-In-Bay—it’s an amazing venue. And Key West? That’s the granddaddy of them all.”
