DCB M37R No. 6 Escaping To New York

With yesterday’s delivery of a DCB Performance Boats M37R Widebody catamaran in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Ken and Renee Lalonde are now halfway to owning a color-matched pair of high-performance beauties. The Lalondes, who live in Upstate New York and are members of the 1,000 Islands Charity Poker Run organizing committee, also have also a new Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats 390 Sport center console on the way.

That’s more than a month away. Right now, they are rightly focused on their new six-seat sport cat powered by Mercury Racing 450R outboard engines and dressed in elegant gelcoat graphics created by Stephen Miles Design and laid down by Jamie Reyes, the El Cajon, Calif., custom boat company’s lead gelcoat man.

For their boat’s interior, they went with Alcantara upholstery complemented by two-color SeaDek flooring and four-color custom carpet. To match one of the boat’s primary colors, they went with a custom Isotta Fanete steering wheel with yellow stitching in its black suede leather wrapping.

They also didn’t hold back on electronics. The helm station is equipped with a 22-inch Garmin GPS unit and a pair of 12-inch Simrad touchscreen monitors with rearview video camera. To help keep things cool, the dash also is equipped a built-in ventilation system.

But more impressive to the couple than all of the 37-footer’s bells and whistles—as well as its “effortless” handling manners—was the customer experience. The Lalondes have owned a slew of high-performance boats during the years from various builders and rightly had high expectations from the company.

“The team at DCB is so professional—I’ve never had a boat-buying experience like this before,” said Ken during his drive from Lake Havasu City, Ariz., to Las Vegas on Friday afternoon. “They made the whole build process very enjoyable. I have hundreds of pictures of the process and endless emails and texts filling us in every step of the way. Both Jeff (Johnston) and Tony (Chiaramonte) are so genuine. Their customer service is out of this world and the customization of the boat is over the top. It’s just spectacular—there’s no other way to describe it.

“The company’s attention to detail is at the top of the performance-boat industry in our opinion,” he continued. “Between the SeaDek and carpet, the detail in every compartment takes the boat to a whole new level. When we asked about doing carpet and SeaDek on the floor, they did it. We asked for more supportive seats for the rear passengers as well as adjustable footrests, they did it. We wanted the front seats to have a similar fit, they did it. And we wanted the gelcoat to resemble my old boat plus carbon and they did it.”

Lalonde described the amount of metal flake in the boat’s gelcoat graphics as “brilliant.” He also said that the trailer, which was built in Florida by MYCO Trailers with customization handled by Adrenaline Trailers in Lake Havasu City, made the entire package perfect.

“These guys deserve an Oscar for the best fit and finish in the industry,” he said. “They went above and beyond with the finishing touches—they surprised us with several things in the boat. I can’t wait to get it back home in my garage so I can just sit in it and find more things they did that I didn’t notice the first time out.”
