Sweating the Details—DCB Delivers M37R Widebody No. 5

Though the fifth DCB Performance Boats M37R Widebody catamaran is going to a buyer who prefers to remain nameless, his striking boat is sure to become well-known on his local waterway. The El Cajon, Calif., custom catamaran builder has hit yet another impeccable 37-footer powered by twin Mercury Racing 450R outboard engines—mounted on STR X-Act brackets—out of the park.

The completely capped cat, which boasts the company’s Phase III gelcoat graphics package, was laid up with carbon fiber and foam coring using the Vacuum Infused Resin process. Per the client’s request, the DCB team created M37R logos with exposed carbon fiber on the underside of the full-tunnel beauty. For the boat’s six-seat interior upholstery, he opted for Alcantara.

“This boat’s gelcoat graphics were somewhat of a departure from traditional DCB graphics, as the deck has on off-balanced asymmetrical deck design,” said Jeff Johnston, the president of the company. “We were rolling the dice to see how it was going to come out—and to no one’s surprise, Jaime Reyes, our lead gelcoater, absolutely nailed it.”

Helm station features include a custom Isotta Carlotta steering wheel with black suede leather and red stitching, Mercury Digital Throttle and Shift controls, a 22-inch Garmin GPS unit and a pair of 12-inch Simrad touchscreen monitors. A combination of SeaDek flooring and custom four-color carpet grace the cockpit sole. For tunes, DCB installed its Stage III stereo system with a Fusion head unit, two hard-wired remotes, a pair of JL Audio amplifiers, eight JL Audio M6 midrange speakers with LEDs and two 12-inch JL Audio M6 free-air subwoofers.

Other niceties include a six-person headset communication system with custom VHF—dubbed the “DCB Channel”—override for boat-to-boat communication and LED lighting throughout the cockpit. For added range, the customer also ordered the boat with twin extra-capacity—100 gallons as opposed to 85—fuel tanks with single-side (port) fuel-fills for ease at the docks.

The boat was delivered on a triple-axle MYCO tilt trailer modified by Adrenaline Trailers with a front courtesy ladder, an LED loading package, LED undercarriage lighting and LED running light package.

“We couldn’t have been more proud to debut and showcase this latest masterpiece last Thursday at the Desert Storm Poker Run Street Party,” Johnston said. “It was definitely the buzz of the event.”
