Desert Storm Poker Run To Open Registration On February 1

Though participant registration for the Desert Storm Poker Run, set this year for April 21-25 in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., typically opens on January 1, organizers Christina and Jimmy Nichols plan to open it on February 1. Vendor registration opens February 15. The husband-and-wife duo announced the dates last night during a Facebook-live broadcast.

Kicker Audio is returning as the event’s title sponsor, according to the organizers. When participant registration opens online, would-be poker-runners will need to have their insurance and registration documents in hand.

The current plan is for all of the Desert Storm elements, from the Thursday night street party to the Saturday morning top-speed shootout, to move forward as usual. But the COVID-19 situation remains dynamic so, according to Christina Nichols, they have “a Plan A,  a Plan B and a Plan C,” though she did not elaborate on the contingency plans.

“Our goal—obviously—is to have an event,” she said. “But we also want to make sure everyone is safe. There are some rules we just can’t get around. So we are trying to do our best to have the event in every way possible. We are trying come up with back-up plans and locations so in case someone says no, we can’t do something somewhere, we already have something else in place and scheduled. We are trying to have multiple options available. That way, we can have the event.

“And let’s just say everything goes off according to plan, we are still going to have to follow CDC guidelines—and have masks, have social distancing,” she continued. “The interesting part of that is come April things may be totally different. All of that stuff may be dropped. We really have no idea. So we’re trying our best to push forward.”
