FMO Lunch Run And Raft-Up Fly Under Radar With A Record-Setting Turnout

Of the eight events in the 2021/2022 Fort Myers Offshore season, last weekend’s 15-mile run from the Sanibel Island Bridge to the Bayfront Bistro followed by a raft-up on Fort Myers Beach is among the shortest. But that didn’t stop the Southwest Florida-based, nonprofit scholarship-raising from producing another record-setting happening.

With the Bayfront Bistro/Fort Myers Beach Raft-Up in the books, Fort Myers Offshore has just two events remaining in its 2021/2022 season.

“With 43 boats registered, we doubled the number of boats we typically expect for this relatively short run in the Gulf of Mexico to the south end of Fort Myers Beach,” said Tim Hill, the president of Fort Myers Offshore. “Our captains did a great job of being prepared with fenders and lines and rafting up efficiently. Bay Front Bistro had a great lunch spread for us right on the patio next to the docks.”

Beating the weather forecast, which initially called for rain and cool temperatures, certainly didn’t hurt the turnout. Temperatures hovered in the mid-70s under partially sunny skies, according to Hill, who described the sea conditions as “excellent.” Hill and his wife, Cyndee were among all seven Fort Myers Offshore board members who participated.

“After lunch most boats idled up the back bay of Fort Myers Beach and over to the mouth of the Caloosahatchee River for our raft-up in cocktail cove,” he said. “As cloud cover set in and temperatures started to fall many of us headed to The Boat House—one of the club’s new sponsors—in Cape Coral, where the party continued after sunset.”

Next up on the Fort Myers Offshore schedule is the club’s Burnt Store Marina lunch run on Saturday, March 5.

Fort Myer Offshore’s record-setting season continued with last weekend’s event.
