Inaugural Super Cat Fest West Event Dates Set

Just a month ago, Alvin Heathman, the organizer of Super Cat Fest at the Lake of the Ozarks in Central Missouri, was still exploring the possibility of bringing his annual celebration and exhibit of some of the world’s finest high-performance catamarans to Lake Havasu City, Ariz. Now, according to a post today on the event’s Facebook page, Super Cat Fest West is set for April 15-18 and will be headquartered at the London Bridge Resort in Lake Havasu City, Ariz.

Alvin Heathman is planning to bring his successful Super Cat Fest format in Lake Ozark, Mo., at the Camden On The Lake Resort to Lake Havasu City, Ariz.

Running four days, Super Cat Fest West is set for the week before the annual weeklong Desert Storm Poker Run. Jokers Wild Productions, a Lake Havasu City-based outfit run by photographer Todd Taylor of Speedboat magazine is collaborating with Heathman to produce the event.

Though much of Super Cat Fest’s popularity is created by owners who bring their exotic boats to display and run, manufacturer involvement and support has long been another essential element of its success. Among the Missouri event’s most loyal sponsors is DCB Performance Boats of El Cajon, Calif.

“We’re excited and all in,” said Jeff Johnston, the president of the custom high-performance catamaran company. “We’ve have had a terrific relationship with Alvin for the last eight or nine years at the Lake of the Ozarks Super Cat Fest. And with the combination of Todd Taylor in Havasu it should be an amazing event.”

For Johnston, having an event so close to home provides obvious benefits for the DCB team. But early interest is not just limited to West Coast performance-boat builders.

 “We are definitely interested in it,” said Tony Cutsuries, the national sales manager for Skater Powerboats in Douglas, Mich. “We have a lot of customers out West and it’s been a good area for us.”

As it did for the 2019 DCB Owners Regatta, the London Bridge Resort is on tap to host Super Cat Fest West.
