Parveys Planning Shootout Attack With New Three-Speed Transmission Threat

Dennis and Jason Parvey, the formidable father-and-team that’s made a big name for itself running a 43-foot, open-cockpit Black Thunder V-bottom in the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout, are hoping to return this year to the Central Missouri event with something new under the hatch. The Parveys have added three-speed transmissions developed and produced by their Factory Billet team rivals.

The Parveys tackled the transmission addition project this winter. An exercise in space management and rigging, the project required them to move their 2,000-plus-hp turbocharged engines forward. According to Texas-based Jason Parvey, he and his father, who lives in Minnesota, plan to start testing the boat this weekend in advance of the 32nd annual top-speed contest scheduled for August 29-30.

“When you install the multi-speed transmissions, you move the weight around,” he said. “We really still have no idea how the center of gravity and everything else has changed in the boat.

“We ended up re-rigging the entire boat,” continued. “We redid the entire water system as well.”

Parvey paused to laugh. “I really miss rigging boats,” he said. “It’s so much fun sliding into a spot that’s too small for me and know I’m going to bust myself on a bolt each time.”

While he and his father hope to get in as much testing and dial-in time prior to the Shootout, they know the process will continue into the event.

“I have no clue what this thing will do,” said Parvey. “We plan to make the Shootout barring any gremlins that rear their ugly faces. The Shootout most likely will end up being—with a closed course and safety crews—a good opportunity for test-and-tune sessions.”
