Photo Essay: Nor-Tech Takeovers
Tourists and locals who happened to stop by Sundowners in Key Largo, Fla., Thursday must have thought they’d stumbled onto an exclusive Nor-Tech boat show. And in a way they had, as the Fort Myers, Fla.-headquartered high-performance center console, catamaran and V-bottom sportboat builder had its own lunch stop there during the Thursday departure wave of the Florida Powerboat Club Key West Poker Run.

That translated to some 40 Nor-Tech creations at the Sundowners docks and more than a 150 participants—a combination of Nor-Tech owners, their families and their friends—sitting down for lunch before heading on to Key West.

The Nor-Tech-exclusive lunch stop didn’t just create a “family atmosphere” for the brand, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. It took pressure off the event’s two other lunch locations, which was particularly helpful for Florida Powerboat Club president Stu Jones and his crew. With 280 registered boats, the poker run saw one of its largest turnouts in recent years. Logistics were anything but simple for Jones and company.
Now the Nor-Tech faithful are on their own for the day, at least until tonight’s Florida Powerboat Club dinner and awards happening at the Conch Republic Seafood Company. Some departed earlier today for the club’s organized trek to Woman Key. Others, perhaps needing to sleep in a bit after last night’s Customer Appreciation Party at the Grand Cafe, are exploring the ever-colorful environs of Key West.

“We feel it’s important to offer additional opportunities for camaraderie amongst our clients as well as those looking to become part of the family,” said Geoff Tomlinson, Nor-Tech’s dealer manager. “The Key West Poker Run is a great event to create the atmosphere with the extra days and venues. We’ve offered the lunch stop at Sundowners and cocktails at Grand Cafe on Duval for the past few years. Both have been very accommodating and really lend themselves to providing that true Nor-Tech experience.”
