Pratt Industries Taking Tilt Trailer Orders

With several new tilt trailers on order from manufacturers such as MTI, Skater Powerboats and Wright Performance Powerboats, Pratt Industries in Bridgman, Mich., is eager to bring its innovative manufacturing techniques for high-strength, durable transportation equipment of all shapes and sizes to the performance boat industry.

The custom trailer company’s proof-of-concept tilt trailer build was showcased in late summer at the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout with Alex Pratt’s 48-foot Good Boy Vodka MTI catamaran powered by Mercury Racing 1550/1350 engines. A diehard performance boater, Pratt is a sales specialist for Pratt Industries and the founder of the Michigan-based vodka company he launched this summer. Because of his passion for boats as well as his firsthand experiences and observations with various trailers over the years, he’s been the driving force for the company, which has a second manufacturing location in Niles, Mich., to get into the custom tilt trailer business. “With assistance from a close friend and dealer, we decided to build tilt trailers because we know we can do it well and offer incredible pieces of equipment to transport these incredible high-performance machines,” Pratt said. “At Pratt, we build intermodal chassis, heavy haul equipment, platform trailers, logging/mining equipment, housing and construction trailers, and more. And we build them to handle millions of miles, not thousands of miles like some boat trailers I’ve owned. Everything we do is overkill and, in my opinion, catamarans from MTI, Skater, Nor-Tech, Mystic, DCB, Statement, Wright Performance and such, deserve the best-built, most-functional trailers possible.

“There seems to be a good demand for relatively cost-effective, well-built tilt trailers—and based on the sales we’ve had with no marketing effort, that is definitely the case,” he continued. “We’re building a trailer for the Branton family’s new 40-foot Skater and one for Burton and Yvette Kirsten’s new MTI 390X. We also have a couple of Wright 360 trailers in the works for Performance Boat Center along with a few orders through MTI, including another 390X and a gooseneck version for a 48-foot cat.”

Pratt said the trailers are not just available for new builds and that he’s already quoted a couple for some current owners of 48- and 52-foot MTIs. He also said Pratt Industries is working on trailer options for center consoles and sportboats.

“Yvette and I are very excited for Pratt Industries to be building a tilt trailer for our new 39-foot MTI,” said Burton Kirsten, who expects to get the new boat for next year’s Performance Boat Center Spring Fun Run. “I’ve heard nothing but good things about their trailers.”
