Sneak Peek: Outerlimits Sport Cat Grows, SV 29 Outboard Glows

From initial design to prototype, it is far from uncommon for a new high-performance powerboat model to “grow.” Such is the case with Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats first outboard engine-powered sport catamaran now dubbed the SC 37. Initially, the Bristol, R.I., custom builder had the cat labeled a 36-footer. But that specification was based on the boat’s 36-foot running surface rather than its overall length, which is 37-1/2 feet.

Being handled in house at Outerlimits, the Stephen Miles Design paintjob for the first SV 29 OB should be finished in a couple of weeks.

“Given the way we typically measure our own boats—and the way most of our competitors measure their own boats—and that the overall length of our new cat is 37 feet and change, we thought we might as well just called it a 37,” said Dan Kleitz, the company’s longtime sales manager. “The deck mold is finished and at Marine Concepts in Florida, and thanks to our good buddy Vinnie Diorio at Rollin Transport in Wisconsin, it should be leaving there and heading here on Friday.”

Though the first complete SC 37 is likely a few months out, the company’s new SV 29 OB could be completed sometime in August, Kleitz said. The first twin Mercury Racing 300R outboard-powered 29-footer currently is being painted at the Outerlimits facility with look created by Stephen Miles Design of Owensboro, Ky.

Like so many new go-fast boats, the SC 37 has “grown” from concept to creation.

“Stephen Miles worked closely with us—he even cut the paint masks and shipped them here,” said Kleitz. “Wave And Wheels is working on the interior for the boat. We already have its new MYCO trailer and Mercury Racing 300R outboards here.”
