St. Clair River Classic Action On Tap Sunday With Livestream

The fourth race of the American Power Boat Association Offshore National Championship Series, the St. Clair River Classic happens this Sunday in St. Clair, Mich. Set to start at noon, the broadcast  for the races is being produced by a local cable television company and will be streamed live on the CTV and Offshore Powerboat Association’s Facebook pages, as well on as the OPA website.

The current schedule has four races with an option for a fifth race if needed. Raceboat testing and practice begins tomorrow at noon.

With the six-race APBA circuit heading into the second half of the season, there is at least one close battle to watch in the series standings. The Super Stock-class Performance Boat Center team of Rusty Williams and Myrick Coil arrives in St. Clair with 294 points and ahead of the CMR team of Shaun Torrente and Eric Belisle, which has 250 points. Each team has run all three APBA series races.

Though the final count is not in as teams are still arriving in St. Clair, Ryan Beckley, the Super Stock-class representative and the owner/throttleman for the S-111 Kinetic Animation/DoublEdge Motorsports team, said he’s expecting eight Super Stock boats to take the green flag Sunday.

Also of note, the Supercat-class SV Racing team will be back in action this weekend since its wild double-barrel roll at the APBA series season-opener in Cocoa Beach, Fla. The team will compete in the Class 1 category against Miss GEICO, as the Mercury Racing 860 engines in the 39-foot Outerlimits SV Racing cat are not spec power for the Supercat class. Also of note, Canadian Simon Prevost, the co-owner and driver of the SV Racing team, will join fellow owner and throttleman in the cockpit for the first time this season.

Unless something changes between now and Sunday, M CON will be the sole Supercat entry in St. Clair. On the flip side, all of the Bracket classes are likely to see strong turnouts in St. Clair as the race is not only part of the APBA series but one of the contests in the five-race Offshore Powerboat Association Northeast Championship Series.
