West Michigan Offshore Raises $8,000 for Veterans Groups

With 91 boats in the fleet, last weekend’s Muskegon Powerboat Weekend produced by West Michigan Offshore delivered more than a whole lot of fun for hundreds of participants and onlookers. The event raised $8,000 for Operation Black Sheep—a nonprofit organization serving Vietnam veterans—and the LST 393 Veterans Museum in Muskegon.

Each charity received a $4,000 donation.

“We were overtaken with emotion as our members and sponsors raised $8,000 for these two great organizations, breaking the goal of $5,000,” said Roger Zuidema, the president of West Michigan Offshore, in a press release from the high-performance boating outfit.

The Saturday poker run began with the annual Parade of Power out from Muskegon Lake to Lake Michigan and had stops/checkpoints in White Lake and Grand Haven. The celebratory dinner that evening included an auction to benefit the charities.

According to West Michigan Offshore representative Sophia Conroy, the atmosphere throughout the weekend was celebratory.

“With 90 boats and a spectator fleet joining, you just can’t beat the feeling,” she said in the release. “Every boat enthusiast should experience this.”

West Michigan Offshore members and their friends will get a chance to do exactly that with next month’s Rock The Coast event, which is scheduled for July 17-19 in Grand Haven.

The LST 393 Veterans Museum provided the perfect showcase for last weekend’s West Michigan Offshore happening.
