WIA Marine Insurance Ready For Busy Shootout Week

If you follow him on social media or have read any of the stories on speedonthewater.com previewing his company’s involvement with the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout in Central Missouri, you know that this week is an incredibly busy one for Chris Wagner and his team at WIA Marine Insurance, the Lake Ozark, Mo.-based coverage provider that is regarded by many to be the Midwest’s top marine insurance agency.

Rooted at the lake, the WIA team has volunteered at the country’s premier top-speed shootout—and all of its accompanying events—for more than a decade. Since the early years of manning flags and radar via borrowed tri-toons, Wagner and the rest of the start crew have partnered with Brad Ekstam of FASS Fuel Systems to allow for increased comfort and overall safety in the present-day start boat, which you can see in the slideshow below.

For several years now, Ekstam’s Cruisers Yachts 60 Cantius—known locally as the FASS boat—has been anchored out in front of Captain Ron’s Bar and Grill, the host location for Saturday and Sunday’s top-speed contest, making an excellent platform for the start crew as well as the start camera for the broadcast, which is going to be streamed live once again thanks to the Benne Media production team.

Wagner said that throughout the week, starting with tonight’s Bob Morgan Memorial Hall of Fame dinner and induction ceremony, WIA Marine Insurance is going to be everywhere. Of course, the company will have a display at Wednesday’s Shootout on the Strip presented by Waves and Wheels that will feature FASS Fuels’ Wright Performance 420 as well as a 40-foot MTI that was recently painted by Precision Paint Worx and is owned by Scott Mathia. He’ll also be attending the Thursday night Welcome Party hosted by his friends at Performance Boat Center and checking out several of the stops during Friday’s poker run.

For Saturday and Sunday’s Shootout, WIA also is sponsoring the CR Racing team of Casey Boaz and Rob Unnerstall that races in the Super Stock-class in a 32-foot Doug Wright catamaran and B-Nauti Racing’s Carrie Sixkiller, a member of the Shootout Hall of Fame who runs a 24-foot Baja Marine sportboat each year at the event.

“On top of the numerous fun runs across the lake area held annually, we are continued sponsors of Super Cat Fest, the poker run on Friday and the Shootout,” Wagner said, adding that it’s astonishing to him that last year’s Shootout-week events raised a record-breaking $400,000 for lake area nonprofit organizations and first responders. “We are really looking forward to seeing our customers this week. Many of them from across the nation only come to the Lake of the Ozarks a couple of times a year, and we can’t wait to reconnect with them during one of the lake’s best fundraising events.”
