Eleven Cool Friday Fun Run Shots From The 11th Annual Lake Powell Challenge

While many of the 75-plus registered boat owners on hand for the 11th annual Lake Powell Challenge hosted by Antelope Point Marina in Page, Ariz., headed out on Thursday for some early fun on the majestic Lake Powell, which borders Arizona and Utah, the real fun started today with a fun run to the most famous site on the lake—the Rainbow Bridge National Monument, one of the smallest parks in the U.S. National Park Service (click image below to enlarge).

Amongst the fleet that logged somewhere between 125 to 150 miles earlier today were many models from several West Coast manufacturers, including DCB Performance Boats, Eliminator Boats and Nordic Boats, as well as boats from the likes of Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats, Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats, Sunsation Boats and Wright Performance.

There also was an impressive MTI contingent led by local performance boaters Mark and Jennifer Schouten, who recently took delivery of a new MTI-V 42 luxury performance center console powered by quad Mercury Racing 450R engines. Dubbed Bravo Zulu, the 42-footer allowed the Scottsdale, Ariz., residents to bring 15 of their closest friends on the fun run—and make them ice cream from their soft-serve machine in the back of the boat at the U.S. National Park Service docks.

Joining the Schoutens were a couple of other 42-foot center consoles and a handful of other cats ranging from outboard-powered 340X models to offshore-worthy 44- and 48-footers, including a new 48 MTI recently delivered to New York performance boater Johnny O’Loughlin. Delivered just in time for the Lake Powell Challenge, Chaos—the sistership to owner George Argyros’ 48-foot cat called Mayhem—was one of the MTI-V 42 models that took part in the run.

After getting his first taste of Lake Powell, speedonthewater.com chief photographer Pete Boden, who calls both Florida and Michigan home depending on the time of year, had a blast today in Greg and Brenda McCauley’s MTI-V 42 and is going to get his gear out early tomorrow in anticipation of Saturday’s poker run and fundraiser for the newly established Lake Powell Challenge Charities Foundation 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Actually he’s gathering up his equipment at the moment to get ready for the rise of tonight’s full moon that is sure to light up Antelope Point Marina. Stay tuned for more to come tomorrow.
