Image Of The Week: Meet The Schultes

We knew Steve Schulte and his son, Jake, could paint a boat—and they have 20 years of excellent paintwork for Skater Powerboats to prove it—but we had no idea the father-and-son team could double as a comic relief on camera. And that’s exactly what the joyful Schulte duo does the moment they appear in Speed On The Water’s recent “In The Lead With Peter Hledin” video, the first of six episodes in the 2022 series, which is presented by Mercury Racing with additional support from MYCO Trailers, Hamilton Marine Finance, Bluave Marine Audio, CP Performance, Hardin Marine, The Firm Realty Group and The Firm Racing Team.

From the moment Steve Schulte looked into the camera and dead-panned, “What should I do with my hands?” we knew we had a winning, undeniably human element for the almost 12-minute video.

But their segment provides more than a few fun moments in Skater’s massive paint booth. Through their interaction in the video, Steve and Jake Schulte offer an inside look at working as Skater contractors. At one point, Steve Schulte even describes himself and Hledin as being “like an old married couple.” Better still is the open respect and love the Schultes share not just for their sometimes salty boss, but for one another.

Don’t misunderstand, they take their work seriously. But themselves? Not so much.
