In The Lead Video Series Flashback: Grant Bruggemann

Grant Bruggemann has as much game as anyone in the high-performance powerboat world. He’s the founder of Grant’s Signature Racing in Bradenton, Fla., one of the nation’s top—strike that, one of the world’s top—high-performance powerboat custom rigging shops. He’s a multi-time world- and national championship-winning offshore racing throttleman. In his “spare time,” he races dirt bikes in Scramble and Enduro events and is among the top competitors in his age group.

In short, Bruggemann is one of the coolest cats we know, which made him the ideal choice for the premiere episode of Speed On The Water’s 2021 “In The Lead” documentary-style video series that is heading into its second year with backing from Mercury Racing, MYCO Trailers, CP Performance, Bluave Marine Audio, The Firm Realty Group, Hamilton Marine Finance and Hardin Marine.

Everyone involved in the series including Scrapyard Media’s Brad DiMaggio and Ryan Wenk has a favorite first-season episode. And the Bruggemann video is at or near the top of everyone’s list. Part of that, of course, has to do with it being our first “In The Lead” video and our first, “Holy crap, we can actually do this” moment. But Bruggemann and his wife, Kellie, best friend, Brian Jackson, and longtime friend and client, Matt Rice, were the stars of the 11-minute show.

“I think he strives for perfection,” Rice says of his friend Bruggemann in a voiceover that opens the episode. “And you see that not only in his rigging quality and detail, but I think you also see that when he races boats or motorcycles or any of that.”
