New Graphix 1 Paint Rolls Out Stormtrooper-Themed Skater

While working on the latest Speed On The Water digital magazine (download it here), I ended up putting a story on the backburner that definitely needed to be shared. A couple of weeks ago, Graphix 1 Paint—a collaborative new paint shop in Osage Beach, Mo., owned by Andy Imhof of Maryland Offshore Performance Marine Center and Justin Wagner of Waves and Wheels—wrapped up its first major project, a 28-foot outboard-powered Skater Powerboats catamaran with a can’t-miss Star Wars stormtrooper theme.

Pictured from left with Keith O’Quinn, Tony Beuchter and Jonathan Gill of Lakeview Marine, is Maryland Offshore Performance Marine Center owner Andy Imhof and Waves and Wheels owner Justin Wagner.Graphix 1 Paint, which has been up and running for about a month, has handled several repair jobs and custom pieces such as seatbacks for an Outerlimits SL 52 and a swim platform for Poly Lift Boat Lifts owner Mark Maasen’s boat. The paint and body shop is located at the former Waves and Wheels property off Highway 54 since the facility was only being used for storage once the audio, upholstery and fabrication business officially moved into its new waterfront location in the fall—The Boardwalk at Waves and Wheels (read the story).

So far, a good amount of painter Tony Beuchter’s and body shop assistant Keith O’Quinn’s time has been spent on the Skater, which Wagner recently dropped off with Imhof and company in Rockville, Md. The team at Maryland Offshore is putting some finishing touches on the boat, including mounting the jackplates, dialing in the setup, testing propellers and more. Wagner said the Waves and Wheels crew, which redid the dash, interior, flooring and audio before the boat was painted (see slideshow below), is designing new stormtrooper-themed, three-dimensional front and rear seats for the Skater that are going to be installed once the 28-footer returns to the lake to be delivered to its owner, Eric Ross.

“This partnership between Waves and Wheels and Maryland Offshore is ideal for everything both companies are trying to accomplish,” Wagner said. “We’re planning to load up our schedule here in Missouri and Andy’s schedule in Maryland with as many projects as possible, and having a dedicated paint shop to create and execute the designs is just what we need. I’m expecting Graphix 1 Paint to help take many of the custom projects at Waves and Wheels to another level.”

Between past projects and this new partnership, it’s clear Wagner and Imhof work together well.

Check out the slideshow above for even more images of the work that was done to the Skater.

“I’ve always tried to surround myself with good people, and Andy and his team are great people,” added Wagner, who is featured in the latest digital magazine alongside 11 other influential people in the performance boat industry under 40 years old.

Imhof, who has been working alongside Chris Dilling of Graphix EFX to design and paint many of the boats Maryland Offshore has restored over the past couple of years, said he is excited about the opportunity to expand his business and work on even more projects with his friend.

“Having both shops is going to give us more versatility,” Imhof said. “We’ve got an awesome staff in place and I’m expecting it to grow from here.”
