Outerlimits Completes SL 52, Wrapping Up SL 44 For Miami Show

Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats is heading into 2020—and next month’s Miami International Boat Show—with solid momentum. In late December, the Bristol, R.I., custom high-performance V-bottom and catamaran company completed an SL 52 sportboat for repeat clients Carl and Diana Doemel of Wisconsin. The 52-footer is powered a pair of dual calibration Mercury Racing 1350/1150 engines and was painted by Stephen Miles Design in Owensboro, Ky. As previously reported on speedonthewater.com, the graphics project led to the company namesake acquiring the Doemel’s 37-foot Outerlimits center console, a one-off build based on the original two-step 37 Stiletto model hull.

The 52-footer is loaded, according to Outerlimits sales manager Dan Kleitz.

“Kutting Edge handled the all-Alcantara interior, and it has this incredible custom diamond-stitch pattern where the threads don’t cross,” he said. “The boat has a full cabin with air-conditioning and a flat-screen TV, 16- and 12-inch Garmin units in the cockpit, a bow thruster and a custom MYCO trailer. It’s a really nice, really clean package.”

While the Doemel’s 52-footer won’t be displayed at the upcoming Miami event, a new SL 44 built for Texas’ Cass Shewbart, a well-known member of the go-fast community, will be there. The 44-footer is powered by a pair of Mercury Racing 860 engines. It is the first Outerlimits to be equipped with a pair of the naturally aspirated, quad-cam four-valve-per-cylinder engines.

“People have asked why Cass didn’t go with bigger power, but I think it’s the perfect power package for that model,” said Kleitz. “It should run around 120 mph, but that’s not why he went with the 860s. Cass is a real boater. He said, ‘I want something that will last as long as possible.’”

Though it is far from certain at this point, Kleitz said that the Outerlimits crew would like to have a new SC 46 catamaran being built for longtime customers Jason and Laurie Moe of Washington completed in time to display in Miami next month.

“We’re hoping to pull off a Miami miracle,” he said.
