St. Clair Classic Boasts 62 Registered Teams, New M-Con Raceboat Debut

With 62 registered teams, the St. Clair River Classic—the fourth stop in the six-race American Power Boat Association Offshore Championship Series—will see its largest fleet in recent years for the Michigan contest. Among the Supercat-class raceboats that have turned out for tomorrow’s races is the new M-Con Skater Powerboats 438 catamaran, as well as the team’s original 40-foot Skater cat.

Team owner/throttleman Tyler Miller and driver Tyson Garvin practiced in the new catamaran today. When this story went live, Miller and Garvin had not decided which boat the team will run in tomorrow’s seven-team Supercat contest.

“We are running the RacePak data now from testing both boats today and trying to make a good decision,” Miller said. “The ultimate issue is that once we change hulls we can’t go back per OPA/APBA rules, and after winning Sarasota it’s a very tough decision.”

Each class with eight teams registered, the Super Stock, Pro Stock Vee Extreme and Class 6 ranks should produce the largest fleets in tomorrow’s races. Other large categories include Class 7 with seven teams registered and Class 5 with six boats registered.

In Class One, Miss GEICO—running a 41-foot Victory catamaran leased from the Zabo team—will square off against 222 Offshore and Victory.

According to the schedule on the Offshore Powerboat Association website, tomorrow’s race are scheduled to begin at noon. The OPA Racing Facebook page will carry the livestream broadcast.
