Waves and Wheels Wraps Up Cigarette And Outerlimits Projects While Preparing For Shootout On The Strip And Open House

Last year I wrote a column about how busy a guy I know at the Lake of the Ozarks was heading into the 30th anniversary of a massive week-long event in late August on the popular Central Missouri lake. You may know him, too—I think most people do. It was Brett Manire of Performance Boat Center, the title sponsor of the 31st annual Lake of the Ozarks Shootout and one of last year’s inductees into the event’s prestigious Bob Morgan Memorial Hall of Fame.

I can only imagine how busy Manire is again at this point two week’s before the giant Thursday night welcome party the Osage Beach, Mo., dealership and service center throws each year. The crazy thing is I know another guy—well actually an entire team of folks just like Manire’s crew at PBC—who is probably just as busy, Justin Wagner of Waves and Wheels.

Chances are you know him, too. He owns the marine audio, custom fabrication and upholstery shop that relocated a little more than a year ago to an expansive, completely refurbished marina property aptly named The Boardwalk at Waves and Wheels. He’s also the guy behind the highly regarded Bluave Marine Audio equipment.

On top of the many complete restoration projects, audio and/or upholstery upgrades, and new entertainment and lighting systems that Waves and Wheels has been cranking out all summer long, the company teamed up to open Graphix One Paint in May and is now focused on two major events it is involved with during the Shootout—the Bluave Marine Audio Shootout On The Strip on Wednesday night (Aug. 21) from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Bagnell Dam Boulevard and the Boardwalk at Waves and Wheels Open House on Friday (Aug. 23) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Wagner said the Waves and Wheels area of the Shootout On The Strip is going to include several project boats and vehicles as well as giveaways and a DJ playing music through the various stereo systems on display. The Open House, which includes special guests, Midwest Boating Center, Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats and HCB Center Console Yachts, is going to include a taco bar provided by Mexicali Blues, plus custom projects on display and access to the company showroom.

A couple of the coolest boats to roll out of Waves and Wheels as of late include a Cigarette Racing Team 38 Top Gun owned by Joe and Shelley Duvall of Oklahoma and a 51-foot Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats V-bottom.

The Cigarette, which is powered by twin 525-hp Mercury Racing engines, was given a beautiful paint makeover by the team at Maryland Offshore Performance Marine Center that perfectly complements the incredible interior overhaul handled by Waves and Wheels (see the slideshow above). Including new cabin upholstery and lighting, Waves and Wheels went to town on the boat’s cockpit, gutting it and creating new side panels, seating, dash panels and more. Updated electronics, gauges, controls, indicators, accessory switches and more were installed along with the new SeaDek flooring and vibrant red and gray upholstery for the drive and co pilot seats and three-person rear bench. Of course the stereo system is loaded with top-of-the-line Bluave equipment.

Again Waves and Wheels was one part of the machine behind creating the practically new Outerlimits, which received a complete re-rig—as in full gut job—from triple Mercury Racing 1075SCi engines to a pair of staggered 1075SCi engines from Tony Battiato and the team at Big Thunder Marine (Battiato said the always-reliable Mark Boos redid the supercharged engines). The 51-footer received an impressive paint job from Mark Morris and company at Visual Imagination and Waves and Wheels had no problem matching the impeccable work with its interior conversion (see the slideshow below). Included in the makeover were all-new panels, upholstery, carpeting, instrumentation, controls and Bluave stereo equipment, plus a radical seat design that tied in the front buckets with custom X-design seat bases to the four rear seats.

Those boats are just two of the projects to come out Waves and Wheels recently. Wagner, who said there are a lot more projects where that came from, invites anyone coming to Lake of the Ozarks in two weeks to come visit the Waves and Wheels team on The Strip or The Boardwalk and feel free to ask any questions.

Oh yeah I almost forgot, we’ve got Wagner committed to be part of the Speedonthewater.com test team for our Center Console Roundup at Super Cat Fest on Thursday. He’s coming to help us assess the latest and greatest outboard-powered beauties from the likes of Deep Impact, Fountain Powerboats, MTI, Mystic Powerboats, Nor-Tech, Sunsation Boats and more. It should be fun since I don’t normally get to spend a lot of time with Wagner because, like I said before, he’s always one of the busiest guys at the lake during Shootout week.
