Cocoa Beach Essentials: P1 Offshore Livestream, Start Times And More

The Atlantic Ocean waters off Cocoa Beach, Fla., have already lived up to their rough reputation as today’s AquaX personal watercraft competition—a first-time addition to this weekend’s American Power Boat Association Offshore National Championship Series season-opener—has been cancelled. Testing in advance of tomorrow’s offshore powerboat races began at noon and the 50-plus teams in town for the event already are working on their rough-water setups.

A final roster of competitors has not been released as several teams arrived in Cocoa Beach this morning. Speedonthewater.com will publish the list when the final version becomes available.

Tomorrow’s races will be livestreamed on the P1 Offshore Facebook page. Coverage will begin 30 minutes before the first race, which is scheduled for 10:45 a.m. and will feature all of the bracket classes. Race No. 2 is slated to begin at 11:35 a.m. and will see the Stock V and Mod V classes take to the 7-1/2-mile course, which includes a dogleg on the outside at the south end.

The 7-1/2-mile Cocoa Beach course is notoriously rough and likely will live up to its reputation tomorrow.

The Super Stock class competition is scheduled to begin at 12:35 p.m. With 11 teams reportedly set to take the green flag, it is the largest class in the event. Planned to start at 1:35 p.m., the final race of the day will feature the Supercat, Class 1 and Vee Extreme classes.

Here’s a breakdown of the current laps required for each class.

• Class 1—9 laps (67.5 miles), Supercat—8 laps (60 miles)

• Super Stock—7 laps (52.5 miles) and Factory Stock 450—7 laps (52.5 miles)

• V Extreme—7 laps (52.5 miles), Stock V—6 laps (45 miles) and Mod V—6 laps (45 miles)

• Bracket Class 100—7 laps (52.5 miles) and Bracket Class 200—7 laps (52.5 miles)

• Bracket Class 300—6 laps (45 miles) and Bracket Class 400—6 laps (45 miles)

• Bracket Class 500—5 laps (37.5 miles) and Bracket Class 600—5 laps (37.5 miles)

All start times and lap requirements are subject to change based on race-day conditions and other variables.

Still exhilarated after earning an Offshore Powerboat Association Class 4 World Championship in 2020, the Michigan-based Old School team is hoping to continue its success in tomorrow’s season-opener.
