SV Racing Returning To Supercat For Four-Boat Roar Offshore Contest

When the green flag drops on tomorrow’s Supercat-class contest in Fort Myers Beach, Fla., offshore racing fans will be treated to something they haven’t seen all season—four boats actually competing in the category, In addition to the M CON, Chariots of Fire and Graydel teams, SV Racing officially will be part of the Supercat pack in the final race of Roar Offshore Fort Myers Beach, the last contest of the 2021 American Power Boat Association Offshore National Championship season.

Owned by throttleman Vinnie Diorio and driver Simon Prevost, SV Racing is a 39-foot Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats catamaran powered by twin 860-hp engines from Mercury Racing. Diorio and Prevost installed the quad-cam four-vale power packages from the Fond du Lac, Wis., high-performance marine engine and accessories company to start the season. By a Supercat-class team owners vote, the SV Racing duo’s move away from existing-class-spec 750-hp carbureted power also moved them out of the Supercat ranks. Since being exiled, the SV Racing team has been competing in the Class 1 category. (The exit of the Miss GEICO has made SV Racing the solo Class 1 entry for the past two races—as it would have been tomorrow.)

And that move—combined with New Zealand-based Pro Floors Racing out of the mix thanks to COVID-19 travel restrictions and Florida-based AMH exiting the sport—has made for skinny, two- to three-team Supercat turnouts at all races this season and left competitors in the once-marquee class frustrated.

So this afternoon in Fort Myers Beach they voted to include SV Racing in their ranks. The caveat is that SV Racing can weigh no less than 10,200 pounds coming out of the water and that the rest of the teams can weigh no less than 9,500 pounds coming out of the water, a move the Supercat team owners involved believe will preserve parity in the class.

“All the Supercat competitors here—Tyler Miller and Myrick Coil in M CON, Jimmy McIntyre and John Emmons in Chariots and Chris Grant and Billy Moore of Graydel—agreed that we should run with them as a Supercat team and we’re in,” said Diorio. “It’s not as if we’re going to affect anyone’s national championship season. M CON already has it won.

“And we’re going to carry that into Key West next month,” he added. “So now, we’ll have something to race for down there.”
