Year In Review Sneak Peek: Power To The People, Skater Cat Style

New Skater Powerboats catamarans with anything other than Mercury Racing power are mighty rare these days. But we have a gem of one coming in our 2021 Speed On The Water Year In Review print issue, which goes to the printer and will be distributed early next month, in the form of a sexy Skater 368.

Justin and Johnna Beischel’s Skater 368 has been a labor of at-home love. Photo by Pete Boden copyright Shoot 2 Thrill Pix.

The boat is owned by Cincinnati’s Justin and Johnna Beischel. Working with his friend Andy Trauth, Justin Beischel—an electrician by trade—built the cat’s 900-hp, 540-cubic-inch engines at his shop. Then he installed them and rigged the boat from engine bay to dash. And just for kicks to pass the time while his 36-footer was in production at the Douglas, Mich., company, Beischel built a trailer for it.

That’s right, the dude built his own trailer.

We first spied the cat at the 2021 Skaterfest event in August, and we knew had to get it in the issue. The Beischels came to Key West, Fla., last month in their boat as part of the Florida Powerboat Club fleet and they ran it during our Friday afternoon photo shoot for the Year In Review issue.

The name of the boat? Short Circuit. But to find out why you’ll have to order the 2021 Speed On The Water Year In Review issue.

And time is running out.
