Speed On The Water 2021 Year In Review—Expanded Horizons

The first copies of the Speed On The Water 2021 Year In Review issue have shipped and Jason Johnson and I already are hearing great things about the oversized, 196-page collectible print magazine. Dropping any pretense of false modesty, after seven years of producing our annual print edition we expect people to enjoy it. But that doesn’t make us any less grateful for the positive response and support.

For those of you who ordered the magazine but have not received it, know that it’s on the way. For those who have not, you might want to order a copy before we run out. And with just 5,000 issues printed this time around, we will run out.

In the magazine’s introduction dubbed “Expanded Horizons,” we wrote about the opportunities and challenges we enjoyed last year. Chief among them was our seven-episode In The Lead documentary-style video series powered by Mercury Racing with support from MYCO Trailers and Hamilton Marine Finance. With renewed support from the backers of the 2021 series and additional backing from CP Performance, Hardin Marine, The Firm Realty Group and Waves and Wheels/Bluave Marine Audio, the series returns this year with six long-format In The Lead videos and a dozen shorter videos in a light and super-fun companion series we’ve dubbed In The Know.

Last year, In The Lead featured Grant Bruggemann of Grant’s Signature Racing, John Cosker of Mystic Powerboats, Brett Manire and Mark Waddington of Performance Boat Center, Trond Schou and Nils Johnsen of Nor-Tech, Shaun Torrente of Shaun Torrente Racing and Justin Wagner of Waves and Wheels. As for this year’s subjects, we’re not tipping our hands just yet.

But we can tell you this much: Primary shooting for the first episode began yesterday and wraps up today. Our partners Ryan Wenk and Brad DiMaggio of Speed On The Water Productions/Scrapyard Media will begin editing the footage next week. Look for the first episode of In The Lead to go live in late February or early March.

In the meantime, know that if it’s not already in your hands, the Speed On The Water 2021 Year In Review issue soon will be.
