Winter Poker Run Set To Kick Off 2021 Florida Powerboat Club Season

Eager to start the 2021 poker-run season after the pandemic-fueled go-fast boating event meltdown of 2020, Stu Jones of the Florida Powerboat Club currently has 27 boats currently registered for the club’s January 22-24 Winter Poker Run from Miami to Marathon in the Florida Keys. Jones had set his registration goal at 25 to 30 boats, so he’s heading into this weekend’s happening pleased with the upcoming turnout.

“It’s shaping up nicely,” he said. “At this point, I think we are going to be comfortable at just under 30 boats with the available dockage the Faro Blanco Resort.”

On its way to Marathon, the fleet will stop at Gilbert’s Resort and Tiki Bar in Key Largo, which is the venue for February 18-21 Florida Powerboat Club Miami Boat Show Poker Run Exhibit. Jones said that several exhibiting manufacturers—Nor-Tech in particular—will be there during the Winter Poker Run lunch stop to check out the site.

“I think the stop at Gilberts will be recon for anybody who’s planning to exhibit there in February,” he said. “I personally know every square foot of that property now after so many years of hosting poker-run lunches there, but with Nor-Tech planning a big show in February with us I also know Henrik Margård and Geoff Tomlinson will show up with their tape measures and cameras.”

Club member registration for the Miami Boat Show Poker Run currently stands at 50 boats, according to Jones.

“It’s rolling along quite well,” he said. “We are targeting 75 boats and I think we’re going to reach that comfortably.”
