Florida Powerboat Club Miami Boat Show Event At 90 Registered Boats

In its Miami International Boat Show heyday, the like-named Florida Powerboat Club poker run following the annual event attracted 80-plus boats. At that size given its original Islamorada/Holiday Isle Resort destination, limited dockage at the host venue for the weekend made it unmanageable for Stu Jones and the members of his Pompano Beach, Fla., organization. So he scaled it back.

But thanks to venue changes and expansion for this year’s event, set for February 18-23 in Key Largo, the club is able to accommodate more participants. As of Friday, Jones reported, 90 boats are officially registered for the run, which will include its own weekend go-fast boat and products shows at Gilbert’s Resort and Tiki Bar, the event’s longstanding lunch destination.

“Some of these registrations are FPC members who will be allowing their manufacturer counterparts to display their boats at Gilbert’s,” said Jones. “And we have increased our water venue inventory at the Anchorage Resort and Marriott Key Largo Bay Beach resort

“The sum total of boats on the run—plus those on display—is nearing 115,” he added.
