Outerlimits Delivers New 52-Footer For Florida Powerboat Club Miami Boat Show Run

Fans of the Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats brands will have a couple of familiar models—an SV 50 formerly owned by Canadian Dave Scotto and an SV 29 with Mercury Racing 300R outboard-engine power—to ogle during this weekend’s Florida Powerboat Club Miami Boat Show Poker Run and Exhibit at Gilbert’s Resort in Key Largo, Fla. But they’ll also get a glimpse or two at something brand-new, an SL 52 owned by repeat Outerlimits customer Don Verkuylen.

Owned by Wisconsin’s Don Verkuylen, the latest SL 52 sportboat from Outerlimits is destined to be an attention-getter this weekend in Key Largo, Fla. Photo from the 2021 FPC Miami Boat Show Poker Run by Pete Boden copyright Shoot 2 Thrill Pix.

With yesterday’s delivery, Verkuylen now has 104 feet worth of exotic high-performance boats in his stable. The Wisconsinite also owns a 2017 model-year, 52-foot Lamborghini-themed MTI catamaran.

The new SL 52 is powered by twin dual-calibration Mercury Racing 1350/1100 engines that are color-matched to its exterior and interior graphics. Stephen Miles Design handled the white, green and silver paintjob for the stand-up-cockpit V-bottom, which has no rub rail.

“The last two SL 52s have been done that way, without rub rails,” said Dan Kleitz, the Bristol, R.I., company’s sales manager. “It’s a great look.”

“The interior is a really cool one-off,” he continued. “It has some custom carbon-mesh inserts backlit with LEDs. We also created custom step inserts down the back of the boat for improved access and added underwater LED lighting.”

Amenities in the SL 52’s air-conditioned cabin include a flat-screen television, a cooler and a sink in the galley, an enclosed head locker and a V-berth with a pad constructed of what Kleitz described as “memory” foam.

“Don has had a few Outerlimits,” Kleitz said. “He was great to work with on this build.”

Though Verkuylen said he enjoyed his 39 Quattro and 43 Legacy V-bottoms—and still loves his 52-foot MTI catamaran—he ordered the SL 52 to meet all of his needs, from tackling poker runs with friends in Wisconsin, Florida and beyond to weekending on board in the Bahamas.

“I love it,” he said following yesterday’s run from Grove Harbour Marina in Coconut Grove, where he took delivery of boat, to Key Largo. “I wanted something that will still go fast—I ran it to 128 mph on the way and it was incredible—and I could really use in poker runs, and also spend weekends on. You could spend four or five days on this boat, easy.

Viewed from any angle, the latest Outerlimits SL 52 is simply beautiful.

“There is nothing like an Outerlimits,” he continued. “I was excited to buy the MTI, but I was even more excited to buy this one because we picked the whole boat—interior, colors, everything and it’s totally different from everything else. Between Danny at Outerlimits and Stephen Miles, this was a total team effort. And there’s nothing like it out there.”

“That’s the thing about our boats—they are totally custom and there are no two ‘same’ Outerlimits in the world,” said Kleitz. “This is a stand-up V-bottom you can run 140 mph and it handles well in rough water and smooth water. No other builder in the world can do that.”

The name of the 52-footer? Enough Said.

“It’s the perfect name for it,” said Verkuylen.
